From The Past

While going through my stitchy closet recently, I came across my little pink gingham apron. My mama made it for me one summer while we were out of school so I could do the cross stitch on it. This is one of the first things I stitched and it was probably made just after the 2nd grade, and I won't tell how long that's been :) The stitches aren't perfect, but I do remember the enjoyment I had with it! She was a teacher, so during the summer she did a lot of machine sewing for both of us. As she sat at the machine, I'd be there with her reading or stitching something of my own. The Vogart pattern has .15 cent stamped on it, but no copyright date so not really sure how old it is. I used the pattern for other projects, but don't have any of the items now. I remember having lots of Vogart "iron on" patterns that I used for embroidery on pillowcases, towels, etc., but this is the only "counted chart" type that I had. Do any of you remember using Vogart patterns long ago??

Stitching after the 2nd grade! That's great! In my entire family, I'm the only crafty person (and football fanatic until my daughter came along). When my daughter was about 10, I bought her a little cross stitch kit for beginners and tried to get her interested but it was not meant to be! Just like reading, I do a lot but my daughter might read 3 or 4 books a year! I learned to let her do what she's interested in. Nice post Mary! Have a super stitchy Sunday!

I don't remember the name Vogart, but I know that I did some of these things too when I was little. I wish that I still had some of them. Crossing those stamped x's was my first taste of cross stitch! You're so lucky to have yours.

What a lovely memory and you still have the apron is so very cool. :)

I am not sure what the name of the patterns were, but when I'd spend my summers with my Gran she'd take me to a store called TG&Y and we'd get iron on patterns and DMC floss...we got tea towels and stuff for the iron ons, and sometimes just plan muslin. I remember she kept all her flosses in a cigar box that was decorated really pretty. Gran was a quilter, and she also made clothes, she could see something in a store, go home and make it without a pattern. She was awesome. I still have 2 or her quilts, and a pillow she made. If my house caught fire, after I got Hubby out, I'd get those things next. :)
